MEGHAN MARIN ~ THINKING OF U *
“Thinking of U (2021-present) is a love letter to my queer friends in NYC. Our work together is a testament to the love and strength they give to me and our chosen families. These portraits are simple and intimate. At home and in soft spaces, queer gazes at queer.
Upon moving to New York in 2019, finding community in other queer people here and exploring my identity alongside them has been a large part of my growth. Many of the friends that I photographed for this body of work are fellow mutual aid organizers in Brooklyn, and working within mutual aid has taught me the importance of building community by and for us.
With anti trans and LGBTQ+ legislation sweeping across the US, now is as crucial a time as ever to support queer people. Transphobic and homophobic bigots are trying to kill us and erase us from history. It is essential that we act now; all of our oppressions are linked. More than allies, we need active movements and direct support towards our wellbeing. Queer people deserve to thrive, not just survive. Some resources for those who want to donate to trans forward queer advocacy are Black and Pink, Callen-Lorde Clinics, Black Trans Travel Fund, Trans Asylias, For the Gworls, Trans Housing Coalition.
Lately, I've been finding solace in dancing through Techno Queers, crying over Queering the Map, and listening to my new fav very Gen Z podcast Violating Community Guidelines.” - MEGHAN MARIN
